Derbyshire Freemasons’ Charity Supports Future Trees Trust

Future Trees Trust is pleased to announce a grant of £2,500 from The Provincial Grand Charity of the Province of Derbyshire, which is the Derbyshire Freemasons’ Charity.

This funding will contribute to the Trust’s core operational costs, which include staffing, office infrastructure, IT systems, insurance, and administrative support—key components that enable the Trust to continue its work in broadleaf tree research and conservation.

The Provincial Grand Charity supports a wide range of local initiatives across Derbyshire, reflecting the Freemasons’ commitment to community service through practical and financial assistance.

John McLaughlin, CEO of Future Trees Trust, shared his appreciation:

“We are incredibly grateful to The Provincial Grand Charity of the Province of Derbyshire for this generous support. While we receive some government funding for specific projects, it is this kind of charitable giving that truly sustains our core operations. These funds help ensure we can continue our work in genetic conservation, research, and development—supporting the long-term health and resilience of the UK’s broadleaved woodlands.”

Future Trees Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to securing the future of broadleaved trees. This work includes genetic improvement, seed orchard development, and partnerships to enhance tree resilience and support sustainable forestry.

This contribution will help the Trust continue its efforts to address the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and the future of homegrown hardwood timber.
