Future Trees Trust Announces Core Support from Gresham House

Future Trees Trust has secured core support from Gresham House, the specialist alternative asset manager with a global forestry and natural capital platform.

The commitment provides core funding to underpin the Trust’s breeding programmes, research and trials, which focus on improving the quality, resilience and productivity of broadleaved trees used in UK forestry and woodland creation.

Core support of this nature is critical to sustaining long‑term improvement work. It helps ensure continuity across breeding cycles, trials and research activity, strengthening the scientific foundation that underpins practical forestry delivery.

Future Trees Trust works with foresters, landowners and nurseries across the UK to develop improved trees selected for better growth, form and resilience from a wide genetic base. The Trust supplies improved seed to nurseries, enabling access to planting material better suited to current management objectives and future environmental conditions.

Support also contributes to maintaining the research infrastructure needed to deliver this work over the long term, including the development of the Craven Field research woodland. This National Trust site hosts long‑term trials and demonstrates the performance of improved broadleaved trees under operational forestry conditions.

John McLaughlin, CEO of Future Trees Trust, said:
“Support from organisations with deep experience of forestry and natural capital investment brings real value to our work. While individual projects are often funded through government and grant schemes, core support provides long‑term stability to continue our breeding programmes and trials.

Gresham House’s commitment reflects an understanding that the performance of woodlands depends on the quality and resilience of the trees being planted.”

Gresham House is one of the UK’s most experienced forestry investors, with an established focus on timberland and natural capital. Its support reflects a long‑term perspective on forestry and woodland creation.

This contribution forms part of a wider base of private supporter funding that enables Future Trees Trust to continue improving the quality and resilience of the UK’s broadleaved trees, supporting sustainable forestry, woodland creation and a reliable supply of home‑grown hardwood.
