New Website & Brand

Future Trees Trust is delighted to unveil a new and refreshed brand and website.

The new logo reflects the importance of our work in the identification of superior trees (plus trees) to establish seed orchards and progeny trials.

We have been through a few changes over the years, having been established in 1991 as the British and Irish Hardwoods Improvement Programme, we were first formed at the University of Oxford’s Department of Plant Sciences by a group of individuals driven to change attitudes towards broadleaved woodlands, and their place in UK society.

This vision remains at the centre of everything we do.

Combining the latest research and decades of on-the-ground experience, we work to support greater tree resilience against pests and diseases. By identifying genetically superior ‘parent’ trees, we can effectively monitor and replicate key traits to cultivate a healthier and more productive generation of homegrown broadleaves.

The benefits of this are vast.

Not only is this work critical to preserving the long-term state of British woodlands, but it helps mitigate the impacts of climate change. As trees with improved growth and form have advanced rates of carbon capture, they have the potential to act as carbon stores for decades. Additionally, the quality of this timber makes localised supply chain and industry an accessible reality and minimises the need for emissions-heavy imports and harmful overseas deforestation.
