Vastern Timber doubled its donation to the Future Trees Trust

Future Trees Trust would like to thank Vastern Timber for doubling their donation in a surprise announcement at our Annual Supporters’ Day 24th May 2022 at the sawmill.

The surprise announcement was made by Tom Barnes, Managing Director, Vastern Timber during his presentation.

The Future Trees Trust is the UK’s only charity dedicated to using research to secure the future of broadleaved trees. Supporters including representatives of  Confor, Forestry England, DEFRA, Action Oak, Royal Forestry Society, Tilhill, Woodland Heritage, the Patsy Wood Trust, Timber Strategies, landowners and many more attended the supporters day.

The surprise announcement was to increase the funding from Vastern Timber to the trust, from £5000 to £10,000 this year. This additional support is from Vastern Timber’s “Woodland Tax,” a pledge to donate 1% of revenue to projects that help local woodlands thrive. Tom said the work of the Future Trees Trust was vital to secure the future of British woodlands and all they provide, as well as vital for our timber industry.

Dr Jo Clark, Head of Research at Future Trees Trust said: “This is an incredible surprise, we are very grateful to Vastern Timber for their further funding which will support the important research for improving broadleaf species.”
