Our mission is to use research to make sure that the next generation of broadleaved trees will deliver all the environmental, social and economic benefits that they possibly can.

We will do this by ensuring that, by 2050, all broadleaved trees in the UK are grown from seed that has been improved using conventional selection and breeding to a ‘tested’ or ‘qualified’ level according to EU regulations. We aim to improve tree quality and hence increase recoverable volumes of timber by around 15% over current levels of production.

Improved trees will live longer, are likely to remain healthy for longer, be adapted to a changing climate, sequester more CO2 and produce more usable timber.

So using improved trees will be the natural choice for anyone planting trees.
