Representatives from across the Irish forestry sector gathered in Gorey, Co. Wexford, to hear a selection of eminent speakers talking about the significance of tree improvement in their particular fields. Presentations touched on Future Trees Trust’s oak, sycamore and sweet chestnut improvement programmes, molecular characterisation and its role in conservation of forest genetic resources, improving prospects for broadleaved timber woodlands, enhancing forest genetic resources, the Northern Ireland perspective and Future Trees Trust’s own Irish ambitions and development plans. A visit to Future Trees Trust’s work at the nearby Nonesohardy nurseries concluded a highly successful and popular day.
